Well, we made it there okay, and made it back okay..and, if you know me, chances are I've already told you all about the fun and firsts I had. But, if you're just stumbling across this page for no particular reason, and don't really know me, then I guess I'll reiterate.. In short, Midwest FurFest, in Illinois, was my first furry convention. Once there, I met my first fursuiter in real life, met a whole bunch of cool furs, including Stalking Cat, Uncle Kage, and 2 the Ranting Gryphon, and just generally had a very good time. I even got to go swimming! Watching Ice caffienate was almost as good as watching myself get high on sugar!

Yay! I'm going to furfest and I'm gonna have fun..I hope! I've never been away from home or my servers for the entire weekend before.. My feelings are balanced between worry over whether or not my servers will last that long, and excitement and anticipation over the coming trip..My first convention! You can expect pictures, and I just may post some, if they turn out well...the cameras we have available aren't very good, but they may work. ... Clothes...check ... Computer...check ... Camera...check ... Now, what am I forgetting? ... Ah, yes... Ice!

The problems with Kiara locking up have been all but eradicated, as I replaced the video card with a MACH64-based card that my brother found in a trash can, which, oddly enough, happens to work better than the Voodoo3 from Ice. A new server, and some tweaking, and she's safe again. Next, however, comes the rather hairy problem of setting her up as a secondary gateway on my network. Apparently, SuSEfirewall2, the only program I have available right now, hates my current configuration, and totally screws the system. So, until that works properly, I won't be able to move Lisani's functions to the new, faster server.

I am beginning to dislike my ISP. Three days ago, my service was cut off unexpectedly. No matter what I did, I could not get back on, though the cable modem was online. Checking out the network card and the server was easy, as was verifying the proper operation of the DHCP client. Modem verification likewise was simple. Everything worked, though something was preventing Lisani from getting a new IP address from the internet service provider. I deduced, and verified, that there was a few corrupted entries in their DHCP server's lease database, and that was preventing me from retrieving my previous lease. My parents' modem had the same exact problem. For them, the fix was easy...I installed a new NIC, and all was well. For me, though, the problem wasn't as simple, as that would involve taking the server down to install the new hardware, and you know how I dislike doing that. The decision was made for me, though, as that's when Lisani decided to crash, for reasons unexplained. Bringing her back up to attempt to determine why, I noticed that the DHCP lease had expired, and so now I was able to get online perfectly fine. Throughout all this, and the five calls to customer support, they kept insisting it was my equipment that was the problem, even though I had all but proven where the problem really lie. Anyways, that's the reason the server was offline for the past three days.

Around 1:30 AM, my ISP cut off internet service for server maintinence. During this time, I took Lisani down for a routine cleaning. Upon bringing her back up, (after a bunch of problems, including a rattling powersupply fan that I had to replace, and two burned out memory simms...) I found that my IP address had changed. So, DNS updates are in progress. Expiration time is in roughly 18 hours, so don't expect the addresses to work before then. There is nothing I can do about that. Sorry!

Unfortunately, Kiara isn't proving to be stable enough to replace Lisani quite yet. Running SuSE Linux 7.3, certain programs cause the kernel to lock up tighter than Alcatraz. I'm currently working with Ice to try to resolve these issues. In the meantime, temporary NFS mounting provides partial functionality with the new drive. Patience...

Everything seems to be running alright. Kiara, the new server, is without a case, but assembled with few problems. It feels weird seeing so much free space on one device that I actually own..Anyways, after testing and installation of required programs, I'm going to start mirroring data to the 40Gb hd and cross-mounting with Lisani until everything is set up, then hopefully swapping the two will go without a hitch. Expect some downtime in the near future, though.

What fun?

This morning (yesterday?) between the hours of 5am and 10am, Nala suffered a fatal hardware failure, leaving all IDE devices permanently inaccessable by her kernel. Surprisingly, all the kernel was doing was complaining. Granted, all other programs were blocked, IPNAT was still functioning. Alas, my friends, Nala shall run no more. Unfortunately, as Kiara is still not fully matured, she will not be taking Nala's place just yet. A stand-in, Lisani, has taken over her duties. Many thanks go to Ice Zetsumei for his help and loaner computer.

Heh...and this is how I've learned to not plan more than 5 days ahead...Phone is gone...internet is gone...roommate is gone...so is the security deposit on the den I was living in...Oh well. I just hope I can find another place to live before the end of the month. And another job to help pay the bills. Such is my life.

Ah, it feels good to be back.
I am now equipped to my former level of l33tn3ss, with the return of all my former computer equipment. I had hoped to be set up with broadband by now, but the lack of both money and job kinda puts a kink into the plan. Oh well. We'll see what the future brings...

It's been a long time coming, but (hopefully) it's finally here. This website is going to get a visual overhaul! Yay! I've already assembled a few header styles that I think may work. Visit Here and vote for your favorite style! I'm taking it one step at a time, so this is just for the header and links that are going to appear on each page. BTW: the first and third options are cascading menus. Those are the ones that have the most problems on other users' systems, tho. If worse comes to worst, I'll use the simple table-link format, but...
*yawns* I'm pulling another >12 hour awake-time right now...luckily I only have to work until 9 tonight...I'm prolly gonna collapse right after I get home, so don't be surprised if I'm not online.
I think that's about it right now... C'ya on the flipside!

Took a trip to a chiropractor today. Dr. Jay Fox. What luck? Anywho, he says that I have a misaligned pelvis and that's why my knees are always hurting. He told me to give up dairy products for 4 days and see if that helps. Heh...no butter, no milk, no cheese...no products that contain milk...and worst of all, NO CHOCOLATE! Can life suck any more? Oh well...it's only for four days, and if it'll help me feel better, maybe it's not so bad...
In other news, I took my driving test, and was so nervous I failed. Oh well...this just pushes my independence off further. Not that I could afford to drive anyways...
I still have the computer. The old roommate hasn't come to pick it up yet. Lucky me. Better than nothing, I guess.

As usual, my life has taken another turn. This time for the worse. For the past month or so, I have been stuck using my roommate's ex-roommate's computer, this little p120, for my internet. Unfortunately, the owner wants it back now. So, no internet again! ... Jeez, how many times can this happen to one person?
